TURN AROUND GROUP DAY 5

Today we created a new song. We were supposed to practise our original song 'i can't breathe' but we didn't have a the correct instruments needed for the song. So we decided to create a whole new song. Im not very fluent on the piano but I can play a few chords used in the song 'why does my heart feel so bar's by Moby. I played these chords and beatboxed whilst Amber rapped, Beth and Nyah sung whilst Tuwaine played drums. It sounded really good and could be brilliant with practise. I believe my leadership skill are shining getting better. I like the way even though I'm not raising my voice, everyone always listens to me and I believe I get a lot of respect when talking.
It was unbelievably satisfying making a song so fast and efficiently. It gives me confidence to start writing music more because it isn't that time consuming to make a great tune if you just put your mind to it.

TURN AROUND GROUP DAY 4

Today we started by getting into pairs and got sculpted by our partners into 3 poses that represented 3 of thier ambitions, and we did the same to them. Next we went around the school as a whole group posing these 3 positions. We then elaborated these positions into dance moves that flowed into the next position. I did my movements in a subtle way so when focus was brought towards me it still had the same effect. If not greater as someone overexaggerating there movements, because we were still doing the same exercise just in a different way. Making the piece more effective and versatile. It was also filmed in different locations of the school, and it is going to be edited and created into a big video mixing all the clips together which is going to be projected at the back of the stage for our main performance. This will be effective. It will show how we all have ambitions and dreams whoever we are.

PLANNING TO MEET THE TURN AROUND GROUP - FIRST DAY

At first I was nervous about meeting the turn around group because I did not know what they would be like and was picturing the worst. I kept thinking what if they get angry or don't do any of the exercises.
I wanted to be certain with what we were going to teach them. So I kept alert and figured out everything I had to do for Friday. I knew that I was going to run an exercise that is called hot and cold. Consisting of someone leaving the room and everyone else in the room having to pick a place for the person outside to get to, just by us clapping louder if they were close and quieter if they weren't. When practising, I found it hard trying to explain something in a way everyone in the room could understand quickly and clearly. After practising and reading through my note book many times I started to feel confident about Friday and actually was looking forward to it.

TURN AROUND GROUP DAY 3

On wednesday, I decided to attend a beatboxing class. I found it really helpful. I didnt learn new sounds or how to beatbox any better, but I learnt how to teach it. By focusing on the teachers actions and exercises the whole lesson, I felt confident to teach a class afterwoulds. I was really looking forward to sharing my skill with the turnaround group and hopefully enhancing them, so they would be able to do a steady, strong beat.
On friday when I started to teach them, I stuck to the basic 3 sounds needed to make a simple, good beat for beginners.
I taught them a high hat sound, a bass drum and a snare sound. Once they had mastered this we went round the circle all incorporating our own sounds into once massive jamming session. I felt like it went well. I believe everyone went away that day being able to do that standard beat. It was fun teaching them and I felt confident and at ease.
When with the youth offenders, I find new confidence in myself coming through that I never thought I had. I like the way I teach with a laid back calm attitude that still gets listened too.
For my next teaching task I would like to add new sounds, but still use the structure of the lesson I went to in mind.

TURN AROUND GROUP DAY 2

Another productive enjoyable day. We went a bit deeper into the drama side today. After many warm ups and fun games we introduced the turn around group to improvisation games. I think the use of improvisation was a great idea to get them started because it got people to use thier imagination and to think outside of the box. Everyone seemed very comfortable and I think the youth offenders are gaining more confidence week by week. It is nice to see such improvement in them. I also noticed that as a group we are all very aware of one another. I tend to always look around the circle to check if everyone is happy and understands what is going on. I also notice others doing this too. It is brilliant working with a group with such initiative.
Once the group could hack improvisation, we moved on to scriptwork. Whoever wanted to direct got given a script and chose the actors they wanted. There were about 5 groups, and each group really made the most out of this opportunity and creater some fantastic pieces. It was good seeing everyone up on there feet working for a finished product. I dont believe anyone sat back and let others do the work. It was an awesome team effort and there is so much potential in all of the group. I also like how everyone is now comfortable to perform. We have such a happy calm environment so there is no need to hold back.
One boy was quite hessitant to perform but he did anyway and he was surprisingly really good. His group worked around him and chose an awesome section from a play to use which suited him perfectly. I cant wait to see what everyone will bring to the next session
